5 Striper Fishing Tips

Go prepared. When trying to catch striper, it can be very important that you prepare your trip first. Some people like to “wing it” when it comes to fishing but striper can be particular and you may not catch many without a proper plan before hand. Of course, every plan needs a backup plan and you should always be flexible and go with the flow. But having that plan in place will help you.

Get fishing reports on the area you are fishing in. This can give you a lot of information not only about the area but about what the striper have been eating so  you know the best baits to try and also what locations to try your fishing at.

Stripers will spawn in the spring when the water temperature reaches around sixty-five degrees and this is an excellent time to fish. When saltwater fishing you will get the best results right after low tide or when the tide is moving in. Using these tips can help to increase the number of stripers you can reel in during each of your fishing trips.

Reeling in a striper can be very challenging and you need to be ready because when they strike, they usually do so hard and with lots of force. When you feel them hit, you need to set the hook fast with a strong snap to make sure he’s hooked good enough to reel in.

Trolling is a great method that gives you more control over the depth in which you’re fishing. This willhelp you keep the bait in the area where the stripers are located. Casting and surf fishing are also good techniques to use.

Anytime you go striper fishing make sure you’re fully prepared so you can have a safe and enjoyable trip. If you’re unfamiliar with the area, it’s recommended that you go out with someone who does know it well or that you get a map to help you learn your way around. It’s also recommended that you only go out during the daylight hours until you get to know the area better. Safety should always come first.
